AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' to Open Segal Centre's 2013-2014 Season

The Segal Centre for the Performing Arts has announced its 2013-2014 season. The mainstage program features two musicals, two classic plays, and two modern classics.

The 46th season kicks off with AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', featuring music by legendary jazzman Thomas "Fats" Waller, in co-production with Copa de Oro Productions. The three-time Tony Award winning musical, directed by Roger Peace (of the 2012-2013 season hit The Mahalia Jackson Musical) will run from September 29 to October 20, 2013.

Shakespeare's classic OTHELLO, produced in association with Scapegoat Carnivale Theatre, will feature leading Canadian actor, playwright, and director Andrew Moodie in the title role. Directed by Alison Darcy, this tale of passion, power, and betrayal will run from November 17 to December 1, 2013.

A new version of Anton Chekhov's THE SEAGULL will make its world premiere in Montreal February 2 to 16, 2014. Peter Hinton has created a "modern take on a classic play for our times," moving Chekhov's tale to Quebec's Eastern Townships in the 1970s.

The two modern classics are up next, starting with David Mamet's GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS, directed by Segal Centre artistic producer Paul Flicker, from March 16 to March 30, 2014. The all-female play TOP GIRLS, directed by Micheline Chevrier, takes the stage from April 27 to May 18, 2014.

The final mainstage production is a musical adaptation of Mordecai Richler's novel THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ, which will be presented in Yiddish with English and French subtitles from June 8 to June 29, 2014. The show is a coming-of-age story set in 1950s Montreal.

The Studio Theatre will stage five shows from four different companies. SEDNA: GODDESS OF THE SEA, and BHOPAL lead the season, followed by three shows for young audiences: DREAMING NOW, THE MEETING, and HORROR STORY.

The Segal Centre also offers audiences a variety of music, dance, and cinema programming. The public programs Sunday-@-the-Segal and the popular Monday night talkbacks and St. James Literary Society lectures are set to continue. The Academy continues to offer many educational programs for aspiring young performers, through the Young Artists for Young Audiences, Broadway Stars, Wandering Stars, and Segal Goes to School programs.

The Segal Centre continues to be a cultural hub in Montreal, showcasing local, national, and international talent in a diverse and welcoming environment.
