CBC Sunday @ the Segal Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 11am A series of intimate conversation and riveting lectures at the Segal Theatre
Don't miss the always-interesting CBC Sunday @ the Segal for the upcoming production of Geometry in Venice.
As part of the Segal Centre's efforts to enhance the theatre-going experience, we are pleased to announce that award-winning Montreal playwright Michael Mackenzie will lecture on Geometry in Venice, his fascinating stage adaptation of the Henry James novella "The Pupil".
Mr. Mackenzie will focus on what inspired him to write the play and the process of translating Henry James to the stage.
Geometry in Venice tells the story of an aristocratic family in Venice during the1890s. Desperate to keep up appearances, they search for a wealthy suitor for their daughter and hire a Canadian writer to educate their sickly, gifted son. Unlike the novella, author Henry James is a character in the drama.
Michael Mackenzie's first English production in Montreal, The Baroness and the Pig (Imago Theatre), received the MECCA Best Production and Best Actress awards and the AQCT Award for Best Anglophone Production (2007-2008). His dramaturgical work includes the Cirque du Soleil show Ka, currently playing at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Geometry in Venice.
