Review: CLYDE'S at Ground Floor Theatre
Austin: Joni Lorraine on May 20, 2024 These formerly incarcerated individuals working at an insignificant truck stop sandwich shop, grapple with their pasts and seek to rebuild their lives. Their evolution, and the work of the actors embodying them, invites us to expand our understanding of the potential for personal growth and appreciation for what some might see as “the other.” We are resilient. We are courageous. We are complex and unique. And we are all worthy of freedom. As much as I fear Clyde would stifle my “five-star-would-recommend” review, I can’t stop myself. Go see this show. It’s got all the perfect ingredients.
Review: Betty Buckley Enchants at Joe's Pub
Cabaret: Nathan Johnson on May 20, 2024 From the first notes of 'It's a Lovely Day Today,' Betty Buckley's iconic voice resonated through the intimate venue. It was the perfect start to an evening that blended new songs and beloved classics. It truly was a collage of perfection. Buckley is unparalleled when it comes to song interpretation. I’d go as far to say she is the master’s master.

Review: 4000 MILES at Berkshire Theatre Group

Review: MOON OVER BUFFALO at Candlelight Music Theatre
Delaware: Greer Firestone on May 20, 2024 Candlelight’s MOON OVER BUFFALO is an uproariously funny comedy by Tony Award winning playwright Ken Ludwig. Last year they mounted his LEND ME A TENOR which was both parts as hilarious and charming. Ludwig’s plays have starred Carol Burnett, Alec Baldwin and Tony Shaloub, to name a few.nk of MOON OVER BUFFALO at Candlelight Music Theatre?
Review: MOULIN ROUGE! is a Thrilling Spectacle with So-So Songs
Milwaukee, WI: Kelsey Lawler on May 20, 2024 What did our critic think of MOULIN ROUGE! at National Tour At Marcus Center? Are you a millennial who listened to “Elephant Love Medley” on repeat? Then this perspective is for you. But quickly, for those who need some background: Moulin Rouge! is the tragic love story of a poor writer, Christian, and the Moulin Rouge’s star burlesque performer, Satine.
Review: BRIGHT STAR at Red Curtain Theatre
Arkansas: Theresa Bertram on May 20, 2024 What did our critic think of BRIGHT STAR at Red Curtain Theatre? Intimate size theatres are my newest favorite way to watch shows, so when I heard that Red Curtain Theatre, 913 W Oak Street, in Conway, was bringing BRIGHT STAR to their newly remodeled performance area May 3-5 and May 10-12, I was intrigued.

Review: PATTI LUPONE: A LIFE IN NOTES at Kennedy Center
Washington, DC: David Friscic on May 20, 2024 The triple -threat talent of the charismatic performer Patti LuPone was on full display at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall on Friday evening---and, oh! What a night it was! A capacity crowd of what was obviously a devoted (and almost fanatical fan base) tuned out to see a glorious two hours of songs ---which were sung with sheer show -biz brio by the resonant mezzo-soprano of Ms. LuPone.

Cabaret: Rob Lester on May 20, 2024 MARVIN HAMLISCH: LOVE IS NEVER GONE recalls the ups and downs and talents of the late man of music in advance of his 80th birthday in June. The much-admired composer and conductor's life story gets the musical biography jukebox treatment. Review: THE CENCI FAMILY at The Tank
Off-Broadway: Peter Danish on May 20, 2024 What did our critic think: This is cutting edge theater of the highest order. Dangerous and daring, it’s more than simply Avant Guard, it is timeless and contemporary at the same time – the kind of theater that makes you sit up on the edge of your seat and pay attention.

Review: PARTY GAMES!, Theatre Royal Windsor
UK Regional: Kat Mokrynski on May 20, 2024 Written by Michael McManus and directed by Joanna Read, Party Games! is a “comedy-drama” that gives audience members an inside look into the political world of the United Kingdom through the “One Nation” party, which has been created in opposition to the other existing parties.
Review: DAVE HILL: CAVEMAN IN A SPACESHIP, Soho Theatre
UK / West End: Kat Mokrynski on May 20, 2024 Dave Hill: Caveman in a Spaceship begins with Hill bursting through the door of Soho Theatre Upstairs on a bicycle, circling around the stage as music blasts and the audience cheers. A smoke machine goes off, covering the stage in fog, as another machine blows out snow-like confetti, with Hill going straight into its line of fire.

Review: HEDDA GABLER at Coal Mine Theatre
Toronto: Ilana Lucas on May 19, 2024 Director Moya O’Connell’s take on Henrik Ibsen’s play, in a new version by Liisa Repo-Martel, emphasizes the power of triangles, relationship groupings that seem stable but which are easily unbalanced by such an act of bisection. With a dynamite cast, an accessible adaptation, and the claustrophobic feeling of being trapped in Hedda’s living room, this HEDDA GABLER is as fiery as its heroine’s desire to burn down everything around her. |
